- GE foods will alleviate world hunger. This is thought to be true because cheap crops can be produced at a fast rate using fewer resources. GE crops can also be grown in most soil, which will be helpful for people living in areas of bad climate.
- GE foods have better quality and longer life than non-GE foods. GE foods are drought-resistant, therefore farmers do not have to worry about crops going to waste and are be able to grow many different crops instead of only a few, select yield.
- GE foods are nutritious. For people living in poor and less fortunate areas in the world, biotech foods are extremely beneficial. Many individuals are Vitamin A deficient and by genetically modifying rice and injecting vitamin A in it, allows those individuals to eat food without worrying about lacking proper nutriton and essential vitamins.
- GE foods enhance taste. By genetically modifying foods, you are able to eat healthy foods such as lean meat and dairy that taste good.

In this blog post you have discussed all the benefits of genetically engineered food which include but not limited to helping end world hunger, produce food that lasts longer, cheaper food, have crops all year round, better taste, and more nutrition. Even though genetically engineered food may be processed and have potential side effects that can still be unknown, in the short run it can seem to help us solve our intermediate problems. However, for those that can afford 100% organic food, should consume organic food because we do not have all the available research on genetically engineered food as of now. Natural is always better than processed because changing the gene of a particular food can have a negative effect on our body.
ReplyDeleteYour blog talks about many pros on genetically engineered food. It allows the public to start thinking that genetically engineered food actually might have its advantages. The advantages you talked about in the blog such as decreasing world hunger and not wasting crops is definitely important. Despite this though, many people react to genetically modified foods and that gives evidence that GE food might not be the best option. I completely agree with Sweta that natural products are better and therefore those can afford organic foods should definitely stick to that. It is also true that now a days there is a lot of things we eat which are GE and we are not even aware of it. Personally, the best option for everyone is to have balance between GE foods and organic foods.
ReplyDeleteAll of these pros that you have suggested really make it seem like genetically engineered food is not as bad as it may seem. Although it is scary that some side effects are not known, many of the pros seem to suggest the idea of helping majority of the population. When looking at the pros of something, it is necessary to see how many people this change can help -- if majority of the population is being helped with this change then I believe it is a good change. Helping end world hunger, producing food that is not only cheap but also lasts longer, and having more nutrition are all great pros. Again, for my own family I would want natural/organic foods; however, if looking at the bigger spectrum and seeing what will help the entire world, I would choose genetically engineered food.
ReplyDeleteI always thought that genetically engineered foods would give a negative impact most of the time, however, after reading this post, I realize that it can actually give a variety of benefits. Transgenic crops shall be planted in more countries where poverty is a serious problem. If one could be prevented from death of hunger by GE foods, the death rate of the world would decline dramatically. I think that GE foods can play a huge role while non-GE food is hard to gain due to environmental pollution. I am glad to hear the fact that genetic engineering technique is able to make GE foods contain a bunch of nutrients that are lacked on some people. Those who are very picky can be satisfied by taste enhanced by GE foods. Overall, I think it is worth to invest and eat genetically engineered foods.
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that genetically engineered food can alleviate worldwide problems such as hunger and poor nutrition. Our society has been mostly negative about GE foods, focusing only on the safety issue. However, not only advanced countries but also developing countries can benefit from GE foods, producing super foods that are cheap, grow faster, have all the necessary nutrition, last longer, and even taste better. As science develops, all industries, including the food industry, face changes. It is good that we are being careful about these changes, but we also need to recognize what benefits they can bring to our society. There are still some questions about side effects and safety of GE foods. However, GE foods might provide great solutions to worldwide dietary problems.
